No.1 Traveller to add capacity to its award-winning collection of airport lounges

Expansion plans driven by passenger growth of over 40 per cent year-on-year

While the travel and aviation sectors continue to experience difficult trading conditions, airport lounge operator No.1 Traveller is preparing for its busiest year yet by creating additional seating capacity at three of its pay-on-entry airport lounges in the London area.

No.1 Gatwick in the North Terminal will increase capacity by 30 per cent. Seating capacity at No.1 Heathrow in Terminal 3 will increase by ten per cent and a second treatment room will be added to its Travel Spa, which recently received a ’four bubble’ review by the Good Spa Guide

At No.1 Gatwick in the South Terminal, capacity is also planned to increase by 40 per cent and an additional 1,000 square feet, making space for a new business area, games table and Snug.

All upgrades are expected to be completed prior to the London 2012 Olympic Games, when the airports are due to see record passenger volumes.

Phil Cameron, Founder and CEO of No.1 Traveller, said:  “We welcomed many hundreds of thousands of passengers across our lounges in 2011, but demand continues to grow at a relentless pace. Despite the world’s ongoing economic worries and air passengers being increasingly value-driven, we believe the ‘lipstick effect’ of buying small luxuries is strengthening.

“You don’t have to be travelling first or business class to access our lounges and we offer a range of facilities that allow travellers to make the most of their time at the airport, which is of increasing value in the current climate. We’ve listened to our guests’ feedback in developing our lounges and are excited that more passengers than ever before will be able to enjoy the kind of five-star service on which we have built our reputation.”

No.1 Traveller opened its first lounge in the UK at Gatwick’s South Terminal at the height of the recession, in April 2009. 2011 was a year of major growth for the company.  In May 2011 No.1 Traveller launched its super-lounge concept at Gatwick‘s North Terminal, a 10,000 square foot lounge, incorporating a fully-tended bar, Bistro, Business Centre, Mini-Cinema, Games Room and Family Room.  Its second super-lounge and flagship, No.1 Heathrow, opened in August, with the addition of its designer pod bedrooms and The Snug, a secluded area where the airport’s many transferring passengers can rest between flights.  Having been open for only nine and six months respectively, both facilities have now become multi-million pound businesses in their own rights. The company also launched Stansted Airport’s Fast Track Security service. No.1 Traveller now operates almost three times the space it did 12 months ago.
